Venus will transit the sun on June 5, 2012. You will be able to see this celestial event (wearing appropriate eye protection!) at dusk in the United States. This will be the one and only time you will be able to view the Transit of Venus as it will not occur again until 2117.
Read technical information about the transit on the NASA website.
You can purchase eye protection online - search for “eclipse glasses.”
The transit will be visible in my area (western North Carolina) from 6:10 pm to 6:27 pm EDT. To find the exact time for your area, first find the exact latitude and longitude for your location and then use this spreadsheet to find the exact times for your location. Or, even easier, go to this Dutch website and allow it to know your location.
